I think this story has been bouncing around the internet for years, but it's so amazing I've got to post it for anyone who missed it. Some guy called Larry who lived in LA decided to buy about 40 weather balloons, strap them to his lawn chair, and take off into the sky with a bottle of coke, a CB radio and a pellet gun to shoot out the balloons. He reached over 16,000 feet and as he came back to earth he got tangled in power lines. He wasn't injured but did get fined $1500 for breaking various Federal Aviation Authority rules.
