Just a passing thought

I've decided to see if I can make an encyclopedia of all things tranny, to try and give something back to the community :) You've probably had wikipedia turn up in search results when you're looking for anything online, it's a massive encyclopedia that is written and maintained by anyone who wants to join in. The idea is that you can edit any page you like, and by putting a phrase in with no spaces and initial capital letters, it creates a new page linked off it, so the different topics just build up and you end up with a massive web of information! I've just started out on mine so it's very bare, I need other people to start helping me put information in, have a look at it here.

Jess, I've been working on the same idea, and actually came by here to see if anyone had any idea as to the best wiki software!
Here's my plan - for what it's worth. As you were first into this space, I'd rather share my thoughts and efforts with you, rather than persue an independant effort. Want to collaborate, hon?
First off, I am the proud owner of trannypedia.[com|org|co.uk|org.uk] :) Well - names are important!
Then, which twiki engine?
* UseMod - well, I'm a perl gurl par extraordinare! But it's basic. I like frills. Goes without saying :)
* TWiki - perl again, and you can dress it up. This is sooo important. But I'm not keen on the look-and-feel.
* MoinMoin - python. After your picture of the snake, I think not :(
* PmWiki - easy to write in, avoids geeky features, "more-than-just-a-wiki". I think I've already fallen in love with this one and just need to rationalise it - especially the gemini skin! http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/GeminiSkin
* MediaWiki - everything and the kitchen sink, but probably way too much for what we t-girls need. But it's shiny! And expensive!
--- So - given PmWiki, then to get some sort of service provider sorted out. PhP4.1, Apache 2.0+, probably RedHat 9+ . And I've always wanted to run Linux off my windows box too (she says, brightly!), so the plan was to develop here then upload to the server. I'm a girl who believes strongly in software engineering and backup!
So (airily) that's the site up and running. But it would need a critical mass of content. So, I was going to rope Jo Angel, Becky, yourself, Emma Scully and anyone else I could persuade into either raiding existing sites or getting loads of info from (Emma, because she knows all about IPL and various body hair treatments - a subject close to every tranny's heart. Or hide). Advice on makeup (let's get Miss K.!). Counselling info (*ahem*).
Then it would be time for a big publicity burst, which I was hoping to coincide with Transpocalypse (+/- a few days). Get lots of girls visiting, adding things, updating information. Try to find areas for development, and work on them really hard until Christmas.
At which point, it would be time to review what's been done, and see if a) pull the plug, b) leave it running, or c) upgrade because of demand. I really wanted to see if I could come up with some other nice features - a T-girl calendar is such a nice idea, using some of the great images there are out there.
That's it (she says simply). What do you think?
